Stephon Wright: A Champion for Buffalo’s Future
Stephon Wright is an influential leader and dedicated advocate for the City of Buffalo. At just 19, Stephon established himself as a powerful voice for the youth, playing a pivotal role in Buffalo’s renaissance and shaping the future of the community.
A proud graduate of Emerson School of Hospitality, Class of 2012, Stephon demonstrated leadership early on as president of the student council during his junior year. As a senior, he made history as the first-ever student representative appointed to the Buffalo Board of Education, where he amplified the voices of students across the city. His groundbreaking contributions set the foundation for a legacy of student representation that continues to this day.
Driven by a passion for community building, Stephon has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of Buffalo’s youth. His experience includes working with the Boys & Girls Clubs and Community Charter School, as well as founding “I Am the Future,” a grassroots initiative dedicated to empowering young people and strengthening the community.
For over a decade, Stephon has hosted impactful community events, distributing Thanksgiving turkeys, back-to-school supplies, and holiday toys to families in need. His commitment to giving back has earned him recognition as one of Western New York’s "Top 100 Hardest Working Community Youth" in 2012. He has also hosted a radio show, interviewing influential figures such as former Mayor Byron Brown and Grammy-winning artist Fantasia Barrino.
Currently, Stephon serves as a Community Navigator with Say Yes Buffalo, where he connects families with resources to help them thrive. In addition to his nonprofit work, Stephon is a successful businessman and real estate investor who believes that collective action is key to lasting change.
Stephon’s dedication to service is deeply rooted in his faith and family values. He is a proud member of True Bethel Baptist Church and the son of a pastor, which has instilled in him a strong commitment to uplifting his community. As the older brother to three siblings, he understands the importance of mentorship, guidance, and leading by example.
Above all, Stephon is a loving and devoted family man. As a father, uncle, and role model, he is committed to creating a better world for the next generation. His dedication to public service is rooted in his belief: “We can do it better if we do it together.”
As a candidate for the Buffalo School Board’s Ferry District seat in the 2025 election, Stephon is committed to addressing the challenges facing Buffalo’s students and families. His campaign focuses on parent engagement, student mental health, improving attendance and graduation rates, career readiness, literacy, teacher retention, and school safety.
Stephon Wright represents a new generation of leadership dedicated to creating opportunities, empowering students, and building a brighter future for Buffalo..
My Vision for Buffalo Schools
As your next School Board Member for the Ferry District, I am committed to improving outcomes, increasing engagement for everyone, and expanding adult education opportunities. These priorities will ensure every student, family, educator, and community member plays a role in shaping a stronger Buffalo Public Schools system.
1. Improve Outcomes for All Students
• Strengthen student literacy to ensure all children read at grade level by third grade.
• Support student mental health with more counselors, trauma recovery services, and wellness programs.
• Increase career readiness by expanding Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs, financial literacy, apprenticeships, and job training opportunities.
• Boost attendance and graduation rates by removing barriers, strengthening mentorship programs, and setting clear goals for student success.
• Invest in athletics, music, and the arts to develop well-rounded students and keep them engaged in school.
2. Engagement for Everyone
• Strengthen parent engagement through community forums, partnerships, and resources that support student success.
• Make student voices a priority by implementing leadership opportunities and ensuring their concerns are heard.
• Foster collaboration between teachers, school staff, parents, and community organizations to create a unified effort in supporting our schools.
• Improve school safety with updated security measures, restorative justice practices, and anti-bullying initiatives.
3. Expand Adult Education & Workforce Opportunities
• Strengthen adult education programs, including apprenticeships, vocational training, and GED support, to provide pathways to stable careers.
• Build stronger partnerships with local businesses and trade unions to connect students and adults with real-world job opportunities.
• Advocate for more workforce development programs that benefit both students and adults in the Buffalo community.
We all have a role in shaping the future of Buffalo’s schools. Together, we can build a system that supports every student, empowers families, and uplifts our entire community. Let’s do it better—together.
